Kartick Chandra Pyne
Kartick Chandra Pyne was born in 1931 in Kolkata, and received his Diploma in Fine Arts from the College of Arts and Crafts in the same city. Kartick Chandra Pyne is the elder brother of acclaimed modernist painter Ganesh Pyne.
As an artist, Kartick Chandra Pyne’s work was more metaphorical than real. His use of colour was based on what the colours meant to him, rather than what the colours themselves represented. He was one of the first Indian artists to experiment with Surrealism.
Kartick Chandra Pyne has had several solo shows in India. His works were shown at the Fukuoka Museum in Japan in 1979 for the 100 Years of Modern Art exhibit and the exhibition of the Indian Council of Cultural Relations in Bangladesh, held in 1992.
He passed away in 2017 in Kolkata.
