Suhas Roy

Suhas Roy was born in 1936, Bangladesh. Acquired his diploma in painting from Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship, Calcutta. Later on, studied Graphic Art under S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17, Paris. In his long career as an artist, he has had many solo exhibitions, he became the principal of the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship and was also part of the Society of Contemporary Artists, Calcutta.

His work predominantly depicts the beauty of the female face, figures, and forms. He has mastered using crayons, watercolours, and acrylic in his paintings. He has created a dreamlike representation of sexual tension and innocence. Roy had his unique style and has made sure that the sensual subject of his paintings was significantly different from the stereotypical portrayals of similar themes. His paintings are mystical in every form.

His works have been celebrated and exhibited all over the world through exhibitions like the Asian Graphic Prints Traveling Exhibition, USA, the Tokyo Print Biennale, Japan, Contemporary Indian Art, Yugoslavia, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Hungry, and Wounds, at the Central Institute Modern Art, New Delhi, and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. He won an award in the Annual Exhibition at Indian College of Artists and Draftsmanship. He won a Merit Certificate from Birla Academy of Arts and Culture, Calcutta.
